As I finished “Experiencing God” today (The Youth edition anyway, apparently there’s more in the adult book), and reflected over things I’ve learned and written down in the past few months, I was challenged again and reminded what a blessing this study has been to me and how much the Lord has taught me. I’m learning and re-learning some very basic truths that I think many Christians (including myself) are missing in their lives.
Here are some quotes from the book that have taught me and challenge me: (from chapter 7)
*How you live your life is a testimony of what you believe about God. (Wow, this one gets straight to it- I need to ask myself DAILY, “Is how I’m living my life today reflecting what I believe about God??” I want my life to be a testimony to God’s faithfulness in my life, ALL THE TIME!)
*Do I fear witnessing more than I trust God’s power to work through me? (Wow again!! This one really challenges me, because most of the time I’m scared to death to talk about my faith with people I don’t know. I need to stop trying to rely on MY abilities and words to win people to the Lord, and let HIM work THROUGH me, relying on HIS power.)
*The only way people will know what God is like is when they see Him at work. God wants to reveal His nature, strength, provision, and kindness to His people and a watching world. This is the ony way the world will come to know Him. (I think this is awesome. God uses US to bring people to Himself and all we have to do is obey what He is calling us to do. We have to step out in faith and and trust completely in Him, and He can accomplish anything He wills to do. The world will see what is being done, and know that God is real and powerful and working around them, and only He could accomplish such amazing things. As a result they come to know Him- How important it is to be faithful…)
*(Along those same lines) The reason much of the world is not being attracted to Christ and His church is that God’s people lack the faith to attempt those things that only God can do.
This is just a small glimpse into what I’m learning and being challenged with. Any of this stick out to anyone else, or anything different? What do you think of the book?
